This course is designed for ESL students who have basic language skills needs such that they require additional support in order to take ESL Level I courses. Students in this course will take ESL Writing and Grammar I and/or ESL Integrated Skills 1 concurrently. Coursework will consist of in-class activities as well as work in the ESL Language Lab.

How do I Register?
Pre: ELLC 124-155, or ESL063 D-, or ESL064 C- to D-, or ESL075 D-, or ESL076 C- to D-
This course introduces intermediate level ESL students to reading for academic purposes. Students develop reading strategies, critical thinking skills and academic vocabulary to increase reading comprehension. In addition, students will develop note taking skills and improve their listening comprehension. They will also build fluency and accuracy in their use of spoken English from a wide range of academic disciplines to improve class discussion and presentation skills.

The goal of this course is the acquisition and control of intermediate level grammatical forms and sentence structures. Students will be able to form accurate simple, compound, and complex sentences and to develop a variety of paragraph types with a clear topic sentence and supporting ideas.

This capstone course prepares advanced level ESL students to engage in college level academic discourse. Students expand the range, accuracy, and fluency of their writing. Emphasis is on expressing ideas more clearly and completely through learning how to generate ideas, plan, organize, and edit. This course fulfills no elective requirements. (3 hours of lecture per week)
